It's a bit awkward at this angle -- the best you can manage is to put your arm around her at the waist. With a sigh, she steps off the pedestal entirely and into your arms.</p>

<h2>Artist's Statement<br>Part I</h2>
</div>
<p>Hi, I'm Lexun Yu, and this is my first time using HTML/Twine.</p>
<p>As you can see, this game may not look like other twine games. This is because I made a lot of changes to the original framework of SugarCube. This game is still based on SugarCube, but since the SugarCube code would limit my content to a framework, so I changed some of the code in it.</p>
<p>Because of my initial planning, this is going to be a very huge IF game. There's so much work to do, and it's my first time using all these new technologies like Twine, that some parts of the game are still unfinished. </p>
<p>The text adventure part of the game is finished, but sometimes the images and videos on the left may not be, I will put my draft on it so you can get a general idea of what I want to show. </p>
<p>I am sorry that I could not show you the complete game, I will discuss more in the second part of my artist's statement. In the meantime, you can click the back button to go back to the game. </p>

<h2>Artist's statement Part II</h2>
<p>Thank you for playing this game!</p>
<p>First, I would like to explain my implementation of technical requirements in the grading criteria.</p>
<p>1. The “title page” of my game is at [[origin|Origin]]. <br>
2. This game has 54 passages in total<br>
3. The background color is “black” which is different than the default grey even you cannot see the background. <br>
4. The font color is #828282 which is different from the default white. <br>
5. The link color is white and include several other properties such as padding, which is different from the default blue. <br>
6. I used italic at [[Ending|ending]].<br>
7. I used bolding at [[origin|Origin]].<br>

<p>I chose Galatea as my goal because I thought Galatea was a very good game, but due to the technology limitation at the time, it didn't give the player a very complete experience. I've tried several different solutions in my game.</p>
<p>First, the game Galatea is based on a very old format called .z8. This format can be only run natively on DOS, and few computers today can run this format directly without emulation. Because of this, much of the content within the game cannot be rendered on today's computers. I made a few bold attempts in my game.</p>
<p>The first attempt was to use the Unreal Engine to create the game scenes.
Unreal Engine is an open-source game engine developed by Epic Games that can be used to create scenes with real-time rendered lighting and materials. This game engine is mostly used for games and many modern games such as Fortnite are developed with the Unreal Engine. I tried to use the game engine to create a scene that would allow the player to immerse themselves in the gallery and the atmosphere of Cyprus. Through the scenery, the players can better bring themselves into the perspective of the game characters. That's why I left most of the left side of the screen blank. </p>
<p>Speaking of the layout of text and images on the screen, this is another thing I would like to change. Galatea the game is entirely based on word, which must rely extremely on the player's imagination. And we now have computers and phones that are powerful enough to display very high-resolution images. I think the new generation of players would prefer some visual representation of the games they play. Through images and music, I hope players can understand more about what I want to show through the texts. Through dark rooms and sharp directional lighting, I wanted to create an atmosphere of seriousness within the gallery. In the Cyprus scenes, I used very relaxed and open scenes like the sea, the starry sky, and the cottage by the sea to create a warm atmosphere, because those are the good memories of Galatea.</p>
<p>One of the major problems with Galatea is its numerical system, the "back view" text. This line makes turning Galatea around a task for the first time in the game, which I think is not a good design. I would like to be able to guide the player's emotions through changes in scenes and music, rather than simply "Face view" or "back view", which is very purposeful.</p>
<p>Another issue I would like to change is the overly open nature of Galatea. In the gameplay Galatea completely without any guidance, the player needs to explore by themselves. Although the game gives a little hint at the beginning, players will still encounter problems frequently. I designed the game without giving players the opportunity to fill in what they want to do, all the options are fixed. I think this small change can make the gameplay a little easier. </p>
<p>For the third question asked in the grading criteria, I did not make good use of the digital affordances provided by Twine. My friend @G7M7T1 is a web-front developer and he helped me a lot with my CSS code. One of the problems we found was that Twine would post-process my CSS code, so some of my elements on the page would look weird after Twine's post-processing. For example, I tried to add a background photo to my page, but Twine always had a border on my image because it defined a very narrow view at the beginning. This problem confused me for a whole day until I sought help. @G7M7T1 helped me wrote a few JavaScript code deleting the original code from Twine after a user load the website. I would like to thank @G7M7T1 again for his help in fixing my font size, link style and a few flaws of Twine. So, I didn't use any of the tools Twine provided me, I removed twine's framework and used my own one.</p>
